Sons of Temperance

Sons of Temperance society's emblem is a red, white and blue triangle within a blue circle; originally the badge had the motto love, purity and fidelity on the sides of the triangle and the society's name around the circle.

The teetotal society

Who are the Sons of Temperance?

Originally established in New York in 1842, the National Division of the Order of the Sons of Temperance Friendly Society has had an outstanding record of service in Britain by providing friendly society saving plans and life insurance policies exclusively for teetotalers. Despite what the society's name might suggest, the membership comprises both males and females.

  • The society has recently undergone a radical reorganisation. This frees the society from onerous regulations; reduces the ongoing expenses of running the society; and enabled the distribution of a large proportion of the assets of the society to those members with long term contracts.
  • The reorganisation enables the society to concentrate on education and furthering the temperance cause. As a teetotal society we are continuing, and will be enhancing, our social, fraternal and educational activities. Former policyholders, as at 31 August 2007, are automatically entitled to continue to be members of the society.
  • If you are teetotal you are invited to Join us!

If you are a past or present Son of Temperance (or a Cadet of Temperance), or a member of another temperance society, or you are a teetotaller, or you share a concern over society's problems caused by alcohol then we'd love to hear from you – and to have your support.
