Sons of Temperance: total abstainer organization

Sheffield

The Sons of Temperance held a grand entertainment at the Temperance Hall, Ellesemere Road, on December 15th. Mr Counsellor Richmond ably filled the chair. A capital programme was gone through. Bro G H Mellor gave a brief but interesting account of the Order, showing the advantages to young men in joining a society which worked on a thorough financial basis. The last point, but not the least referred to, was, that we offer no temptations such as the public house does. A vote of thanks to all who had so kindly assisted during the evening, brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.

About the Sons of Temperance

Having previously been founded in the United States, the Order of the Sons of Temperance of Great Britain and Ireland was instituted in 1855. Thus for over a century and a half the Sons of Temperance, as a Friendly Society, has had an outstanding record of service in providing life insurance and savings schemes exclusively for total abstainers.

If you are a past or present member of the Sons of Temperance (or the Cadets of Temperance), or are a total abstainer, or share a concern over society’s problems caused by alcohol we’d love to hear from you.
