Sons of Temperance meeting
Mr F. R. Knight presided over a special meeting of the Grand Division Sons of Temperance, in Falcon Square Chapel, London, on Saturday, which was well attended. The principal business was to elect 50 representatives to attend the National Division meetings to be held at Huddersfield in Whitsun week. Messrs R Rayfield, G T Bird, E Unsted, T Hussey, J Dance (Brighton) and F Pickett (Hove), representing the Sussex District, and J Roberts (Tonbridge, Kent), were among the successful ones. Animated discussions took place on many matters connected with the Society, the Convalescent Home, old age pension scheme, and the opening of new branches, the local one being Preston Park section, which bids fair to become a very promising and successful branch.

Having previously been founded in the United States, the Order of the Sons of Temperance of Great Britain and Ireland was instituted in 1855. Thus for over a century and a half the Sons of Temperance, as a Friendly Society, has had an outstanding record of service in providing life insurance and savings schemes exclusively for non-drinkers.
If you are a past or present member of the Sons of Temperance (or the Cadets of Temperance), or are a non-drinker, or share a concern over society’s problems caused by alcohol we’d love to hear from you.
