Cadets of Grimsby and Cleethorpes on Parade
An effective and pleasing procession was witnessed in the streets of Grimsby on Sunday, September 13th, when 150 Cadets carrying flowers and banners and 50 Adult workers in full regalia marched to the accompaniment of two Citadel bands to the Salvation Army Citadel (Duncombe Street) for their 2nd annual Church Parade and Flower Service.
Major Beynon, in his address to the assembly, stressed on the need for more unity amongst churches and kindred organisations in combating the evils of Drink. Grimsby was lacking in this respect. In fact he went as far as to say that Temperance activity as a United Body was dead, but surely that remark did not apply to the “Sons.” Signing the Pledge marked the starting point in the history of boys and girls and the promise to keep it should be remembered and observed throughout life.
Musical items were rendered by the Bands and Army Songsters, making it a bright and cheery service.
Bro G Sutton, D.W.P., presided, and amongst the sisters and brethren of the Hull Grand Division present were: Bro Denison, G.W.P., Bro Barrow, G.P., Sis Light, Asst. G.P., Bro Berrill, P.G.W.P., Sis Berrill, Bro Humphreys, G.W.A., Sis Humphreys, C.G., Bro Cooper, P.G.P., Sis Walpole, C.W., Bro Green, C.S., and Sis Draper.
The gifts of flowers which were received by members of the Ladies Committee, were afterwards taken by members of the Junior District Council to the Grimsby and District Hospitals and Infirmaries.
Bro H Light, P.G.W.P., was Chief Marshal of the Parade.

Having previously been founded in the United States, the Order of the Sons of Temperance of Great Britain and Ireland was instituted in 1855. Thus for over a century and a half the Sons of Temperance, as a Friendly Society, has had an outstanding record of service in providing life insurance and savings schemes exclusively for nondrinkers.
If you are a past or present member of the Sons of Temperance (or the Cadets of Temperance), or are a non drinker, or share a concern over society’s problems caused by alcohol we’d love to hear from you.
