Table tennis marathon starts 1975

The Sussex Sons of Temperance Young Members Association (STYMA for short) used plenty of energy to start their New Year's activities with a sponsored table tennis marathon. This fund-raising venture on Friday, January 3, was held at Portslade Sports Centre, Chalky Road, Portslade.
Those taking part successfully kept two tables in continuous play for the 12-hour period from 10am to 10pm. The event was not only useful in helping the funds of the local STYMA group but was also found to be an enjoyable (if tiring) exercise.
STYMA for young people between the ages of 13 and 30 forms a link between Cadets of Temperance (under 16s) and the parent body the Sons of Temperance.

Total abstainers organization

Having previously been founded in the United States, the Order of the Sons of Temperance of Great Britain and Ireland was instituted in 1855. Thus for over a century and a half the Sons of Temperance, as a Friendly Society, has had an outstanding record of service in providing life insurance and savings schemes exclusively for total abstainers.

If you are a past or present member of the Sons of Temperance (or the Cadets of Temperance), or are a total abstainer, or share a concern over society's problems caused by alcohol we'd love to hear from you.
